HELLENIC LINK–MIDWEST

A PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION LINKING HELLENES AND PHILHELLENES THROUGH CULTURAL, SCIENTIFIC, SOCIAL, AND PHILANTHROPIC ACTIVITIES

Hellenic Link–Midwest (formerly known as Krikos) is a dynamic Hellenic-American professional organization in the Chicagoland area.

Hellenic Link – Midwest was founded in 1985 by George Alexopoulos, George Kourvertaris, Dimitris Molfetas, and Constantine Tzanos as the KRIKOS Midwest Chapter (running its own cultural and educational program) of the international professional Greek-American Organization KRIKOS based in New York and founded in 1974.

In 1998, the majority of KRIKOS membership created Hellenic Link to avoid a legal battle with some former members of KRIKOS' leadership who claimed that had trademarked the name KRIKOS, and KRIKOS Midwest Chapter was renamed Hellenic Link–Midwest, as the Midwest Chapter of Hellenic Link. The same year, Hellenic Link–Midwest was incorporated as a 501 ( c ) (3) independent organization in the State of Illinois.

Since its inception, Hellenic Link–Midwest has consistently showcased activities on a  variety of topics that are in the forefront of the Hellenic-American community’s interests.

These activities include lectures, symposia and conferences where a variety of prominent speakers ranging from ambassadors to journalists to university professors have provided insights into Hellenic history through the ages or have lectured on topics of current interest in politics, economics, education, the arts, and sciences.
